My bestest friend died at 4am this morning from stage 4 lung cancer. Her daughter arrived from Las Vegas at 3am and managed to get to hospice in time. I, along with 3 other friends saw her in the afternoon. She was able to recognize one of us. I told her that Kathy was going to be there soon, and it looks like she held on until Kathy arrived. Rest in Peace, Twyla, you are loved and you will be missed.

Finally March is here..... Going to be in the 50's this week with a slight chance of rain...It was supposed to Rain last week but didn't get any. Mountains got a lot of snow.

Yesterday was not a good day. The day before I was getting pressure on the right side of my chest so in the morning when it happened again, I called the nurse and she said to get into the ER right away. This was about 8:30 so I made it in by 9am. Great care but nothing was found. EKG,
CAT scan, XRays, etc. Spent more time waiting on test results than anything else. This morning my dr called and said if breathing don't improve by Friday, she may admit me for some more tests. Oh, well.

OK, It's cold here in Grand Junction (about 13 degrees at 3:42pm on the 1st) but it's going to get back to normal (30's) during the week. Had a quiet New Years Eve and didn't even see it come in. But that's ok, I haven't in years. A friend came over and we had a quiet time talking and had one shot of brandy.

It snowed a couple of days ago, and I have three inches of the white crap in my yard. At lease that's better than the 2 feet that was on the ground this time last year.

I have an outdoor kitty that refuses to come in out of the snow. It will come to the garage to eat but then disappears.

here it is already. December 2010. The last month of the year. Two birthdays this month, one on the 13th (you know who you are), and one on the 25th - Happy Birthday Jesus... My sister made it home from the hospital once again. Don't know how she does it. A friend of mine just a couple of weeks ago was told she has Stage 4 Lung Cancer. She was able to get her MM certificate so that's some good news.

Well, here it is: November already. I don't know of any birthdays except one. Happy birthday miss Christy.
It's getting colder and that means snow will be on the way soon. Ski resorts are starting to open. Twyla has closed her consignment store, can't make it if you are taking in less than $10 a day. Thanksgiving is coming too.

Well, Fall has arrived along with the cooler temps. Right now we have a severe thunderstorm waring in effect until 9pm. Don't know if we'll get anything though.

Twyla FINALLY can see again! The cataracs are GONE. Two weeks ago she had the first one removed, then last Tuesday she had the worse one done. That one was a beach! Her eye kept moving around making her dizzy (OK ) It's getting better. And she's moving into a new house. She brought her cats to the new place, and one of them disappeared. Showed up two days later at the old place she is sharing with her mother. And it's abut 8 miles away.

Three birthdays this month, Kathy on the 21st, Twyla on the 26th, and me on the 28th. Then Holloween on the 31st.

It's been hot, but haven't reached 100 yet (I don't think) Will be making a trip to Alamogordo soon, don't know exactly when. I'll let you know when I get back. Fire Dept has been busy, bunch of people getting sick.

Had to take some photo's of my landlords garage at the apt complex. A 81 year old lady lost control of her Ford and just missed a row of parked cars, but managed to 1/2 destroy a garage. She only had some minor injuries - mostly from the air bags.

Enjoy the 4th, but don't drink a 5th unless you stay home or have a DD.

Here it is, June already. The hummingbirds are starting to come back = saw three of them yesterday. Had a great time with Twyla, Carol and Joe yesterday. Had hamburgers, hot dogs and everything else. The weather even cooperated.

Here it is, the First of May, and we have a Freeze warning and a Dense Fog warning in effect. Will Spring ever get here? I'm starting to doubt it since later in the week we are to get into the 70's again.

Getting my stereo installed in the van today. This way I'll have a CD player instead of a cassette player.

Had my annual physical yesterday. A couple of minor things were found. At least I'm treating them as minor. Have a CAT scan on Sat and an ultrasound next month.

Well, Buffy got to the vets after spending the night locked up in the bathroom! And sure as hell didn't like it. It was the only way I could be sure of having him in a room small enough to catch him and put him in the carrier. The vet called and said that everything went well and I can pick him up at 4 when Lucky goes in for his shots.

March is here finally. Birthday greetings to 3 people, you know who you are.

Got a vehicle yesterday. It's in the REALLY MIXED UP CLUNKER catagory. But it runs and it will get me arund town for a while until I find something better. Now I need to get to the insurance company and then to the MVD to get plates.

Lucky and Buffy

On March 1st, Buffy goes in to be neutured before 8:30 am. When I pick him up at 4, Lucky will go in to get his shots. Maybe afterwords, Buffy will have calmed down some. Right now he has me trained to pickup the flashlight and turn it on when he wants to play. I will have to put him in the carrier on Sunday, using gloves, just to make sure he gets there. That will be fun.... Also have to put some food and water. Don't know about a litter box though. Maybe I'll just try and lock him in the bathroom with the carrier and hope I don't have to get up during the night.

Still looking for a vehicle too. Van blew a rod or something when I tried to get it unstuck during the Dec snowstorm. Shoulda called AAA right away.

Bad News

Twyla and I had to have our little kitty "Fireball" put down the other day. He never fully recovered from his being "fixed" a couple of months ago. When I got him home he seemed ok, but then a couple of days later Buffy (His brother) and Lucky started beating up on him like there was no tomorrow. So Twyla took him home and he seemed to be getting better. But then he took a real fast turn for the worse - couldn't walk, couldn't see out of one eye, and stopped eating. So, we did what needed to be done to put the poor boy out of his pain. He will be missed.

It's Feb already. Really Glad that Dec/Jan have fallen to the wayside. Blew a rod or something in the Van, engine froze up, need to find something else. Had a couple of possibilities but they fell through. VA Creative Arts Festival at the Grand Junction VA starts this week. I didn't enter this year. Fire Ball got nutured a month or so ago and hasn't been the same since. Today we are going to have to put him down. RIP FB, you were a good sweet boy.

Well, I don't know of any birthdays this month, but I might be wrong as I'm getting old.

Twyla tried to stay open from 12 to 7 last month at her store: "The Twyla Zone". This month she's gone back to 12 to 6. It's just too dark to stay open until 7 and soon it will be too cold. She's getting more people into the store, now she just needs to get them to buy more. See previous entries as to where the store is.

My sister is in the hospital with Swine Flu. She seems to be doing ok, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Jerry, Diana and I have made it to Alamogordo, NM. Along the way, we stopped at the: Grand Canyon; the Metor Crater; the Really Big Array where the movie "Contact" with Jodi Foster was filmed; the Angle Fire Site; and the 3 Rivers Petroglyphs Park. Tomorrow (Tues) we will be going to White Sands National Park. Photos' will be posted on this site and my other 2 sites after I get home and have a faster internet connection. Please check them out.

I also stopped by the cemertary and placed some flowers on Denise's grave. Some real and some artificial. We miss you and love you honey.

Another Milestone

Today, for the first time in how many years? I was able to walk approximately 3/4's of a mile without having to stop for breath. I did stop to check some things, but it wasn't because I had to for a change. I guess my workouts with the Wii each day and watching my diet is starting to pay off.

Today marks the 8th year of my NOT SMOKING!!!!!! Didn't think I would even make it 8 months, let alone 8 years. I woke up on Mother's Day with two packs of smokes. About 6 hours later, I had 6 smokes. I checked my wallet and I had enough money for a carton of smokes or the patch. I took the patch. (I did have one small relapse in Oct when my mother died. I had about 2 pack of smokes then - so you purists can say that is when I quit.)

Well Lucky survived his neutering. He's sore of course, and the vet said not to feed him tonight and to keep him from climbing on things for the next couple of days.....they were kidding right? He's had some food and no reactions at all, so I guess that's ok. He's not in the mood to climb right now, so that's ok. And other than being POd at me, he'll make it.

Today's the Day!!

Well, today Lucky is really PO'd at me. I had to pick up his food around 9:30 last night so no food all night, and no 'nanna this morning. In about 30 minutes he's going to the Vets again. This time to be "FIXED". And not soon enough either. He took off on Thursday for about 8 hours. That's the longest he's ever been gone. Needless to say, he didn't go out all weekend. Maybe this will help cure his 'roaming urge' to some extent.

Oh well, he'll have a treat when he recovers.

Final Performance

Last night was the final performance of "The Cat's Meow". Almost 400 people showed up for the 3 performances. Only one major 'goof' on Sat's Matanee but most people didn't notice it. The last performance went almost perfect. The Morilaty people didn't make one mistake (don't ask how that happened) Everyone who attended seemed to enjoy it. Hopefully we can do better next year and the the current Director and Playwrite will return.

Remember, we still need new members, and if you're willing to admit you are at least 50, ask me about joining.

"The Cat's Meow"

Well, it's that time of year again. The Grand Junction (Co) Senior Theater annual production is in the works. This year, the play will be another original by Sheri Hickman - "The Cat's Meow" a comedy. It will be preformed at Central High School once again. The play dates are: March 27th and 28th, 7:00 pm.

Set in 1925, it has gangsters, tap dancers, performers rehersing for a play, (while performing a play). Lots of fun for all and it's "G" Rated.

More information will be posted as it becomes available (prices, etc)

Update: Prices are $10. Times: 7pm, on the 27th/and 2:00pm and 7pm on the 28th

new address

I am finally moving out of the apartment complex that I have been living in since my divorce 2 years ago. My landlord, George, also owns property on Orchard Mesa. He asked me a couple of weeks ago to take some pictures of the damage to the property, which I did. And it was of a property that I had always wondered what it was like. I talked to him and we came to a good rent price. It is a 1 1/2 br, 1 bath, 1 car detached garage, with a 16x20 shed and approximately 1/4 acre. The rent will be cheaper than what I'm paying now, but the drawback is that I have to pay the utilities. Which means, I have to be more careful with my expenses. But at least I'll be able to open my front door without having to worry about someone complaining. The damage to the property consisted of 3 huge roll away dumpsters full of junk being hauled off, a complete bathroom redo, and brand new carpet, and new kitchen cabnets. My e-mail, phone, etc will remain the same, and if you didn't get an e-mail with my new address and want one, notify me and I'll give it to you.

Pictures of the new place will follow in a couple of days.

Well, Betty and I made it here to Midland, TX safe and sound. However, it's hot!!!! 104/103/106 and last night the power went off around 2am for about 3 hours or so. The temp was down in the 80's outside, which made it close to the 100's inside. Oh well. Been going to a couple of places - the CAF Museum and the Petroleum Museum. The CAF has plenty of aircraft and the other one has plenty of information about the oil companies and the Chaparral Racing Cars of Jim Hall and company. Pictures will be attached. On our way back, we'll be going through NM, maybe White Sands (she's never been there) and maybe Mesa Verde

New Month

Once again, we move forward into a new month (actually did that a week ago) No birthday's that I can recall, so if I missed it, Happy Birthday!!!!

I'll be doing some traveling this month. My next door neighbor (82 years young) wants me to help her drive to Midland TX around the end of the month. Haven't been in that area for quite some time, so it will be interesting. She has family there and she also wants to talk to a lawyer about a possible personal injury lawsuit. Reconciliation Day

April 2 is Reconciliation Day. Take the first step and make contact with someone who you haven't spoke with in a long time. There are three people I would like to reconcile with - Charles, Bryn and one other. If they would contact me, it would be helpful. :-)

Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Canon G9 Camera

OK, I admit it, I can't afford it, but almost everyone I know has been telling me to get this camera. So, It went on sale this weekend, and I went and bought it. It is a 12.1mp, with all the bells and whisles. So far, I'm happy with it, but the learning curve for someone my age, well....it's going to take a while. These were taken today, Feb 27, at Connected Lakes.

2007 had a bunch of first's in it for me, too many to mention. It was a mixed year, some good things, some not so good things happening. I suppose that 2008 will be about the same, hopefully with more good things than not so good things happening.

Grand Junction Senior Theater will have it's tryouts on the 3rd at the First Baptist Church at the corner of 7th and Grand, at 6:30. Come on out and see what you can do to help. (You don't have to act or sing) {most of us can't}. Just be over 50.

Senior Theater Party Time

Yesterday, Friday, the 14th, the Grand Junction Sr. Theater had their annual Christmas Party and telling us what the production will be this (next) year. A great time was had by all, we even had a ballerina show up (Ken Morrell's grand daughter - picture attached) Try outs will be Jan 3, at 6:30, at the Baptist Church at the Corner of 7th and Grand, here in Grand Junction. Come and try out, we need all the help we can get (plus you'll see what this is all about this year, and believe me, it's a different one all together - think historian Dave Fishell) Here's some pictures.

I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas and that you don't forget the reason for the season - Jesus. And that Santa brings everyone what the wish for.

On my wish list - I wish that certain people would get over their bitterness/hatefullness; that they come to see themselves as the wonderful people that they are. That certain people would contact me again and that everyone has a great time. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Thanks to Judi, Denise's mother are in order. I saw the headstone today for the first time, and Judi did an OUTSTANDING job in picking it out. To you who follow this blog, all one or two of you, you'll notice that I have deleted a lot of entries. There are going to be more photo's posted from now on instead of items about family matters and stuff. (You who know me will understand why). I'll keep you updated on my daughter's case as I am updated.

Royal Gorge

Royal Gorge Bridge is the second photo. The swing has been voted the scariest in the world out of 87 world wide. It's 100 feet tall, and swings out over the Arkansas River 1000 feet below. The other view is from the Bridge and the bottom is over 1000 feet under the bridge.

Here's some of the cars that were at the car show this past week. A Nash Metro, a 1937 Rolls Royce that was used as a taxi in London during WW2, and a restored "Woody". Enjoy.

Mountain Passes

This is part of an old mine near Molas Pass. The other is a waterfall from melting snow.

And the other two were taken at Mesa Verde National Park on Sun, Apr 29th.

Hello Deer

Here's a couple of pictures of some deer in a persons front yard that I happened to take today on the Grand Mesa. Later on they were seen in a field behind the house grazing. I first thought that the deer lived there as they were headed right to the front door.
